Welcome to the U, Coach Golden

For Al Golden, choosing Miami was the easy part.

“You kidding me?,” Golden said when asked why he picked Miami. “It’s the most recognizable brand in college football. Five national championships, countless All-Americans, incredible tradition. It’s a dream job.”

Now, the former Temple coach just has to remember one thing: He’s not on North Broad Street anymore. Golden certainly put himself on the map by transforming Temple from college football’s national laughing stock to Bowl contenders. But that won’t be enough at Miami. They count success by national titles. In other words, the pressure is on.

“I want to make sure you understand that our goal is to win a national championship,” Golden told reporters yesterday at his introductory press conference. “That’s going to go on the board in the locker room right from the get-go.”

Still, Golden treaded water when asked how soon he thought the Hurricanes could win their sixth national championship.

“To make a prediction without seeing the team, I can’t do that,” Golden said.
