West Philly shooting leaves one dead and two injured

Gunfire erupted late Sunday night in West Philadelphia, leaving two injured and one dead. The incident happened between 10:30 p.m. and 11 p.m., according to conflicting news reports.

“We know that at least 17 shots were fired from two separate semi-automatic handguns,” Chief Inspector Scott Small said.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 17-year-old who had suffered severe gunshot wounds to the head and body. He was taken to Penn Presbyterian where he died from his injuries.
“Due to the fact that he was in close proximity to the ballistic evidence and due to the fact that he was shot numerous times, we believe he was the intended target,” Chief Inspector Small said.
A second 17-year-old was taken to Penn Presbyterian as well for critical injuries. Police were only able to find him after following a trail of blood he had left behind while trying to find help. Police say the young man eventually ran inside a home of people who were complete strangers to him.
A third victim, a young woman, was grazed by one of the bullets.
There is no description of a suspect or further information regarding a motive.
