Where to drink craft beer in Philly

Monk’s Cafe,264 S. 16th St.

An oldie but a goodie, Belgian beer bar Monk’s has been serving craft brews since 1997. Make your decision slightly easier and choose from the 20 beers on tap — or settle in with the Beer Bible and browse through page after page of options. But expect to wait for a seat: Both the front and the smaller back bars are typically packed.

The Cambridge,1508 South St.

The only downside of the always-impressive draft list at this comfortably trendy South Street spot is that you’ll want to order everything on it. There’s always one or two old favorites included, but let your bartender or server guide you through the lesser-known choices. Or just close your eyes and point. Live a little.

Standard Tap,901 N. Second St.

It’s all local, all the time at this multi-level Northern Liberties tavern, with a draft-only beer list featuring 20-plus brews made in Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware. Yuengling is represented, of course, along with selections from Dock Street, Dogfish Head, Victory, Sly Fox and more. The food menu also emphasizes local.

Local 44,4333 Spruce St.

This neighborhood-y hangout lets you take the beer home with you: There’s a bottle shop open until midnight daily. Or settle into a booth and choose from pours like Tired Hands HopHands and Bullfrog Funny Farmhouse Cider. Since this is West Philly, there are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options for when you get peckish
