Where to go for New Year’s Eve

There is absolutely nothing wrong with cozying up at home on New Years’ Eve, sparking cider in hand and Ryan Seacrest on the television. But if the changing of years is your excuse to go out and party like it’s 1999, we suggest bringing your bae to one of these turnt up parties sure to be on fleek. (Sorry, we wanted to use 2014 slang one last time.)

For the younger crowd: Union Transfer

1026 Spring Garden St.

The Making Time blowout is at Union Transfer again, with a five-hour open bar and midnight champagne toast for $50. Dave P, Sammy Slice, Steve Vena, Broadzilla and other will be providing the music. Get ready to dance up a sweat.

For the trendy: Hotel Monaco

433 Chestnut St.

The Old City hotel, home to Stratus Rooftop Lounge and Red Owl Tavern, is throwing Midwinter’s Night Dream, with two floors of food, drinks, dancing, live music from 5th Avenue and beats from DJ A-Run.

For the nostalgic: The Olde Bar

125 Walnut Street

Restaurateur Jose Garces is turning the closed Old Original Bookbinder’s, the historic Philly spot opened in the late 1800s, into The Olde Bar. It’s opening for a preview party New Year’s Eve, with a full bar, food including a slider station with those delicious burgers from Garces’ Village Whiskey and live music from The York Street Hustle. Tickets are $195.

For the artsy: FringeArts

140 N. Columbus Blvd.

Red 40 & The Last Groovement is providing the soundtrack for FringeArts’ New Year’s Funkin’ Eve. Expect a dance floor, a bonfire in the beer garden and, they promise, “all the balloons you can handle.” It’s $15; if you’re eating at La Peg first, entrance to the party is free.
