As the birthplace of the nation, Philadelphia is the place to be for July 4 festivities. One of the day’s highlights is undoubtedly the gigantic fireworks display that caps off the annual Wawa Welcome America celebration. The party in the sky begins at 9:30 p.m. and the fireworks can be seen above the Philadelphia Museum of Art. But where are the best places to watch the July 4 fireworks? Here are our top picks.
Benjamin Franklin Parkway
This is a no brainer, but the Benjamin Franklin Parkway is the ultimate spot to watch the July 4 fireworks in Philly. The whole street will be closed off from Logan Circle to Eakins Oval. If you want somewhere to sit that’s off the beaten path, try your luck at getting a spot in the baseball field at 22nd St.
Belmont Plateau
Located at 1800 Belmont Mansion Drive, this slightly elevated part of Fairmount Park is perfect for spreading out blankets and taking in the fireworks, albeit at a distance.
Schuylkill Banks Boardwalk
Beginning at Locust Street and continuing to the South Street Bridge, the Schuylkill Banks Boardwalk extends the Schuylkill River Trail into the river, and the views are spectacular.
Assembly Rooftop Lounge
Located right on the Parkway on the top floor of the Logan Hotel, Assembly Rooftop Lounge is perfect for watching the fireworks with a cocktail in hand. The space is limited on busy nights, however, so it’s not ideal if you’re looking to spread out and relax.
Sister Cities Park
Located at 210 N. 18th St., this little patch of greenery is a great place to sit by a cool fountain and watch the fireworks on Fourth of July. Finding a bench may be tricky though with all the crowds, so be sure to bring a blanket to sit on.
Martin Luther King Jr. Drive
If you’re coming in from the suburbs, Martin Luther King Jr. Drive is the perfect place to stop and take in the fireworks. You’ll get views of the city skyline, the Art Museum and Boathouse row in addition to the fireworks.
