Wildcats still soaking it in

Andy Talley’s not quite sure what to do with himself. There are no more games to prepare for. No films to watch or injuries to worry about.

The coach of Villanova, the FCS national champions, is still basking in Friday’s 23-21 win over No. 1 seed Montana and hasn’t quite figured out how to relax.

“I feel ready to play another game,” said Talley, who has been flooded with celebratory text messages and e-mails. “I don’t feel any different, because I’m so tunnel visioned. It probably will be a feeling of intense pride for Villanova. But for Andy Talley, I wish I could be more enthusiastic.’’

If he’s not, others are. There were 15 players from Talley’s first ’Nova squad (1985) at Friday’s title tilt. The coach has heard from former players Brian Westbrook and Falcons receiver, Brian Finneran, while Howie Long gave the Wildcats a shout-out on Fox’s pregame show yesterday.

Now, can Jay Wright and his eighth-ranked hoops Wildcats follow their lead?

“Jay’s already done it,” said Talley. “Getting to the Final Four is pretty strong. To win a national championship, you have to be not only talented but lucky.”

Leaving just one question for Talley & Co. to ponder with possibly 15 starters returning, including quarterback Chris Whitney and all-purpose stud Matt Szczur: What can you do for an encore?
