With baby’s death, fatalities rise to 3 in NW Philly crash

Police announced Sunday that a baby girlinvolved in a fatal two-car collision that may have been caused by rainy conditions last weekhas died.

Zyana Wilson-Perez, 7 weeks old, passed away from injuries sustained during the crash at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, the police department announced Sunday.

That brings the death toll from the car crash on Henry Avenue near Hermit Lane up to three.

Eric Barksdale Perez, 6, died less than an hour after he was partly ejected from the backseat of one car during the crash. Zaire Ross-Wilson, 20, who was in the same car, also died from his injuries after the crash.

Out of nine people involved in the crash, seven, including four children, were in a gray 2005Mazda6 which edged over the center line. They then collided with the second vehicle, a 2008 blue Mazda 3, with a 29-year-old male and 28-year-old female.

Police previously said wet roads caused by rain all weekend were a factor, but did not yet announce the cause of the crash.

AccidentInvestigation Division Capt. John Wilczynski called it “a horrific accident” last at a press conference on the crash last week.

The two passengers in the second vehicle were not seriously injured.

The other four passengers in the first vehicle were all in critical condition after the crash. They included two boys, aged 4 and 5, and two women who were ejected from the car, aged 23 and 25.

Police did not immediately respond to a request for an update on the status of those four passengers.
