With canine disease resolved, PSPCA to reopen adoptions center

The PSPCA announced Tuesday that dog adoptions would be open to the public and heavily discounted this weekend after all signs of Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease have vanished from their adoption center.

The reopening celebration, to be entitled “Who Let the Dogs Out?” marks the two-week period that medical regulations call for after such an outbreak.

“The adoptions centers at [PSPCA’s] Erie Ave and Danville, Montour County locations have been closed since March 12 when the PSPCA experienced higher incidents of Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease complex (CIRD),” the PSPCA said in a statement.

“No dogs died or had to be euthanized due to the outbreak. The dogs are now healthy and ready to be adopted with no risk to families. Standard procedure is to quarantine the animals for 14 days after the clinical signs have resolved. The cat population remained unaffected by the illness.”

On April 18 and 19 canine adoptions will be reduced to $20 at the PSPCA’s Philly and Danville adoption centers.

There will also be be face painting, music, food trucks, and kids’ activities.

Visit the Philly adoption center at 350 E. Erie Avenue or the Danville center at 2801 Bloom Rd Danville, PA, or visit pspca.org for more information.
