A new show is opening from Without a Cue, and this one is perfect for all Carrie, Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda fans.
‘Slay and the City: A Killer Cosmo’ is a mystery spoof on the wildly popular HBO show ‘Sex and the City’ from the immersive theater company, and previews are set to begin Jan. 11. (opening night is Jan. 18.)
Written by Traci Connaughton and held at the organization’s Red Rum Theater (601 Walnut Street), it will be up to audiences to solve the conundrum in this original experience.
“Slay and the City is an original parody of one of my favorite shows. It’s a lampooning of Sex and the City while honoring its fandom. I have always wanted to bring this to Philadelphia for a full run,” notes Connaughton in a statement.
“It’s visually pretty because of the aspect of fashion in the show. The costumes are so fantastic. The action starts when the ladies are all out together in our version of ‘Manhattan.’ After a dark turn, there’s a mystery to be solved and one person will leave with a prize. But everyone ends up a winner as we raise our glasses to a night out on the town with cosmos.”
Themed drinks by Pops McCann (including signature cosmos, flirtinis and more) will be available via a cash bar during each performance, and tickets ($35 GA, $75 VIP) are available now online. VIP tickets also include a complimentary cocktail, a packet of clues and a gift.
In past performances in Philadelphia, the local production company utilized theatrical elements, technology, comedy, and hospitality for different murder mysteries, including ‘A Golden Girls Murder Mystery: The Curse of Jessica Fletcher’, ‘A Very Brady Murder’, ‘PHRIENDS—The One with Murder’ and more. For ‘Slay and the City’, this unique experience will run through the end of February with shows every Saturday (5 and 8 p.m.) and Sunday (3 p.m.) at Philadelphia’s “only event venue dedicated to the art of murder mystery.”
