A 66-year-old woman was hospitalized after someone shot her early Monday morning inside a Germantown rooming house, police said.
Officers responded just before 3 a.m. to a report of a shooting on the 4600 block of Wayne Avenue, according to authorities. They found the woman inside a second-floor apartment with a single gunshot wound to the left side of her abdomen, law enforcement officials said.
She was rushed to Temple University Hospital and is expected to survive, the PPD added.
Investigators said the victim was in the bathroom when she heard a gunshot outside the door and felt pain. She called 911 and waited for authorities to arrive, police said.
No arrests were reported in the immediate aftermath of the shooting, and the circumstances remain under investigation, officials said. A PPD spokesperson told Metro that detectives do not believe the incident was a home invasion.
Anyone with information is asked to call or text the police tip line at 215-686-TIPS (8477).
Through Sunday, Sept. 14, 716 people had been shot in Philadelphia this year, down 9% compared to the same date in 2024, according to PPD data.
