A 56-year-old woman was gunned down blocks away from Temple University’s North Philadelphia campus.
Police said Kim Jones, a program director for Turning Points for Children, was shot “execution style” once in the back of the head while walking toward a bus stop at 9:16 a.m. at 12th and Jefferson Streets, according to Officer Tanya Little, a police spokeswoman.
University officials said Jones was not affiliated with the university.
The shooter, described only as a heavyset black man dressed in black and carrying a duffle bag, was seen fleeing west on Jefferson Street.
Temple University sent out a university-wide alert shortly after the incident.
SEPTA Spokesman Andrew Busch said authorities are reviewing video caught by a security camera on a Route 23 bus that was traveling near the intersection at the time of the incident.
“For at least a little while afterward the bus was held as they investigated the crime scene,” Busch said. “Nobody involved in the incident was a passenger on the bus, we didn’t have any injuries, no shots hit the bus, but it does seem like it was in pretty close proximity to where everything happened.”
