Woman seriously injured in hit-and-run at Far Northeast church lot

A 69-year-old pedestrian was in critical condition after a car pulling out of a church parking lot struck her and fled the scene Sunday night in the Far Northeast, authorities said.

The crash happened at around 8 p.m. at Our Lady of Calvary Catholic Church on the 11000 block of Knights Road, according to police. Investigators said the driver did not stop while leaving the parking lot and turned northbound.

Police have not released images or a description of the vehicle. Anyone with information is asked to contact the PPD’s Crash Investigation Unit at 215-685-3180/3181; call or text 215-686-8477; or go to phillypolice.com/forms/submit-a-tip.

Hit-and-runs, and traffic deaths, have been trending upward in Philadelphia since the onset of the coronavirus pandemic.

About three miles from Calvary, a 79-year-old woman was seriously injured when she was hit at around 1:45 p.m. Friday, Nov. 24, in a parking lot on the 8800 block of Frankford Avenue in Upper Holmesburg, according to authorities.

The driver did not remain at the scene. A short time later, officers located what they believe to be the suspect’s SUV; however, as of Monday, no arrests have been made, a PPD spokesperson told Metro.

More than 640 hit-and-run crashes have been reported this year, according to data provided by the PPD earlier this month. People have died in 38 of those incidents – more fatalities than the year-end total for 2022 and nearly quadruple the number for all of 2019.
