On Thursday, Aug. 14, Comcast Spectacor announced that one of Philadelphia’s premier sports and entertainment venues, formerly known as the Wells Fargo Center, will now officially operate under its new name, the Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Since 2010, the Wells Fargo Center has been the home of Philadelphia’s 76ers, Flyers, Wings, the Villanova Men’s Basketball team, and other entertainment events such as concerts and comedy shows. Originally the CoreStates Center, built in 1996, the building has gone through several name changes, becoming the Wells Fargo Center after the financial corporation purchased Wachovia, the venue’s sponsor from 2003 to 2010.

The Xfinity Mobile Arena will remain in place through the 2030-2031 season, after which the 76ers, Flyers, the city’s eventual WNBA team, set to make their debut in that same year, and all other entertainment events will move to a new stadium that will also be located in the South Philly Sports Complex. The naming rights for the new stadium, a joint venture by Comcast Spectacor and Harris Blitzer Sports & Entertainment (HBSE), the primary owner of the Philadelphia 76ers, will be owned by Comcast, according to its partnership with HBSE.

In May, Comcast Spectacor Chairman and CEO Dan Hilferty expressed his excitement about the inclusion of the Xfinity Mobile brand in a statement.

“This arena is an anchor in the South Philadelphia Sports Complex and broader region,” said Hilferty, “As we complete our historic relationship with Wells Fargo, we wanted to ensure that our new partner matched our enthusiasm for delivering world-class service to our fans and guests… We couldn’t be more excited that Xfinity Mobile’s brand will become the centerpiece for sports and entertainment in Philadelphia.”

According to Comcast Spectacor, the change has been reflected across digital, signage, and marketing materials, and exterior signage will be revealed in early September. All previously scheduled events and tickets remain valid, Spectacor said.
