On Thursday, Aug. 14, Comcast Spectacor announced that the home of the Sixers, Flyers, and more — formerly known as the Wells Fargo Center — was officially renamed the Xfinity Mobile Arena. On Tuesday, Sept. 2, the company unveiled the exterior changes to the building in a special ceremony, joined by notable members of the Comcast, Sixers, and Flyers organizations.

Among the special guests present for the unveiling were Flyers players Sean Couturier, Travis Sanheim and the team’s beloved mascot Gritty, along with young Sixers stars Jared McCain, VJ Edgecombe, and the team’s mascot, Franklin the Dog.

The change comes as both the Sixers and Flyers are set to begin highly anticipated seasons — the Flyers in year two with young star Matvei Mitchov, and the Sixers following a season of turmoil, for which they were rewarded with the No. 3 pick in the 2025 NBA draft, high-flying rookie VJ Edgecombe. Following the unveiling, Edgecombe was asked which player he wants to be the first that he dunks on at the Xfinity Mobile Arena.

“Man, whoever’s under the rim,” Edgecombe said with an excited smile. “To be honest, whoever’s under the rim. I don’t have anybody in mind.”

Last year saw the completion of a multi-year, privately funded $400 million-plus renovation project to improve the venue. Entering this new era, the location is continuing to advance as it adds a WiFi network upgrade that, in the words of Comcast, is “so intelligent its blazing-fast speeds are 10x faster.” According to Comcast, this arena will be the first on the East Coast to leverage this newly introduced high-power WiFi.

“Philadelphia is built on passion. Whether it’s the adrenaline of a 76ers or Flyers game, a concert, or a moment that moves you, people can share it instantly at Xfinity Mobile Arena,” said Matt Lederer, Vice President of Brand Partnerships and Engagement at Comcast. “Xfinity Mobile Arena’s new supercharged WiFi is a living showcase of our brand and the opportunity we have to power connections that bring our community together.”

Since 1996, the location has hosted many iconic moments in sports and entertainment. Through several name changes, the venue has continued to be the home of Philadelphia’s teams, including the Sixers, Flyers, Wings, and the Villanova Men’s Basketball team. The new name of the venue will be in place through the 2030-31 seasons, as both the Sixers and Flyers prepare to depart for the new stadium build that is coming to Philadelphia’s Sports Complex that same year.

“The strength of our partnership with Comcast and Xfinity Mobile is a shared vision of leveraging technology and innovation to create lasting memories for our fans at games, concerts, and live events. The incredible investments Xfinity Mobile has committed will allow our fans to stay connected and share every shot, dunk, and celebration,” said Tad Brown, CEO of HBSE and the Philadelphia 76ers. “We can’t wait to welcome our fans back to Xfinity Mobile Arena soon, as we have some fun things planned for them this season.”
