1 killed, 13 injured in weekend shootings

One man was killed and at least 13 people were wounded in shootings Saturday and Sunday in Philadelphia, and several others were hospitalized following stabbings across the city.

Authorities said the man, 30, was gunned down just before 2:45 p.m. Sunday on the 5200 block of Cedar Avenue in West Philadelphia. He sustained gunshot wounds to his head, neck and left arm, according to police.

Meanwhile, two men were hit, police said, after gunfire erupted just before 11 a.m. Sunday on the 1800 block of E. Allegheny Avenue in Kensington.

A 46-year-old man who was shot in the back of the head was rushed to Temple University Hospital by responding officers. He is expected to survive, authorities said.

The other victim, a 24-year-old man, walked into Jefferson University Hospital and was in critical condition, according to police.

Around the corner, on the 800 block of E. Madison Street, also in Kensington, a 59-year-old man was stabbed six times just after 12:30 a.m. Sunday. He was transported to Temple University Hospital, where he was in stable condition.

A 35-year-old man showed up to Einstein Medical Center at around 12:10 a.m. Sunday with a gunshot wound to his chest. He was in “serious but stable condition,” police said.

As of midday Sunday, detectives still had not located the scene of the shooting.

A 52-year-old man was stabbed once in the upper back just before midnight Saturday outside on the 3100 block of G Street in Kensington, authorities said. His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

In Juniata, a road rage incident led to a shooting at around 11:55 p.m. Saturday on the 600 block of E. Courtland Street.

Police did not say what precipitated the argument, but a shootout ensued, leaving a 40-year-old man with two gunshot wounds to his left leg. Officers recovered a gun from the man and took him to Temple University Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

The other man involved in the shooting is still at-large.

Authorities said a 19-year-old man was shot in the left foot at around 11:15 p.m. Saturday inside a house on 51st Street, just north of Market Street in West Philadelphia. His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

He knew the shooter, investigators said, but that person has yet to be taken into custody.

A 36-year-old man arrived at Nazareth Hospital after being shot in the right foot just after 9 p.m. Saturday near the corner of Bustleton Avenue and Bergen Street in the Bell’s Corner section of Northeast Philadelphia, police said. He is in stable condition.

In North Philadelphia, just after 6 p.m. Saturday, a 16-year-old boy was shot at least four times — in the abdomen, lower back, right shoulder and right ankle — on the 900 block of W. Boston Street.

Authorities said he was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

Earlier in the day, just before 5 p.m., police responding to the 100 block of N. Millick Street in West Philadelphia found a 40-year-old man who had been shot just under his chin. He was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Hospital in critical condition.

Police said a 40-year-old homeless man was stabbed once in the stomach by two other homeless men at around 9:15 a.m. Saturday on the 2600 block of N. Broad Street in North Philadelphia.

Officers took him to Temple University Hospital, and he is expected to recover. The suspects have not been apprehended.

A 21-year-old man showed up to Pennsylvania Hospital in Center City just after 5 a.m. Saturday with a gunshot wound to his left foot. Police said it’s unclear where the shooting occurred.

About an hour earlier, a 25-year-old man was shot once in the forehead and once in the neck on the 1800 block of E. Wishart Street in Kensington, investigators said. Officers rushed him to Temple University Hospital, where he is in stable condition.

In the Far Northeast, a 35-year-old man was shot once in the stomach just before 4 a.m. Saturday near the I-95 interchange at Academy Road, police said. His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

Just before 3 a.m. Saturday, a 30-year-old man walked into Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in University City with gunshot wounds to his chest and face, authorities said. He was listed in critical condition.

Detectives are still trying to pinpoint the location of the shooting.

In East Oak Lane, a 26-year-old man was shot outside just before 12:45 a.m. Saturday on the 6600 block of N. 7th Street. Police said he is in stable condition, receiving treatment for a gunshot wound to his back.
