2 killed, 5 injured in Philadelphia shootings

Two men were killed and five other people were hospitalized following separate shootings Monday night and early Tuesday in Philadelphia.

A 39-year-old man succumbed to his injuries shortly after he was shot twice — in the chest and abdomen — at around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday on the 3500 block of Germantown Avenue, near Temple University Hospital in North Philadelphia, police said.

Just before 2 a.m. Tuesday, police responded after shots were fired on the 900 block of W. Hunting Park Avenue in the Hunting Park neighborhood, authorities said.

Nearby, at 9th Street and Roosevelt Boulevard, a car had crashed and a 28-year-old man in the passenger seat was found dead with a gunshot wound to the head, according to multiple media reports.

The driver was reportedly treated for cuts to his hand and was not shot.

No one was arrested in the immediate aftermath of either killing.

Authorities said a 40-year-old man was shot once in the thigh at around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 5100 block of Arch Street in West Philadelphia. He was hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries.

A 50-year-old woman arrived at Temple University Hospital at around 5:15 a.m. Tuesday with gunshot wounds to her face and arm, police said. She was listed in critical condition.

Investigators said she was shot on the 3100 block of Berkeley Drive, which is part of the Philadelphia Housing Authority’s Abbottsford Homes development in East Falls.

In West Philadelphia, a 25-year-old man was in critical condition after being shot in the forearm, thigh and hand just after 11:15 p.m. Monday on the 5400 block of Spring Street, according to authorities.

Earlier, at around 9:15 p.m., officers were called to the 5600 block of Walton Avenue in the Cobbs Creek neighborhood, where they found a 25-year-old man inside a car with gunshot wounds to his neck and cheek, police said.

The victim was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition.

Someone shot a 25-year-old man in the left thigh just before 8:30 p.m. Monday on the 1800 block of N. 76th Street in the Overbrook Park neighborhood, according to authorities. His injuries are not expected to be life-threatening.

Police did not report any arrests in connection with the recent shootings.
