1 killed, 6 injured in shootings

One person was fatally shot and six others were injured by gunfire in separate incidents Tuesday night and early Wednesday, in addition to a shooting that left a man dead and four wounded in Kensington.

In Overbrook, someone shot a 63-year-old man in the chest at around 3:15 a.m. Wednesday on the 5600 block of Diamond Street, police said. He succumbed to his injuries a short time later at Lankenau Medical Center.

No arrests were reported in the immediate aftermath of the killing, and authorities have not publicly identified the victim.

Just a couple of blocks away, a 14-year-old girl was shot in her thigh at around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday in an alleyway near 56th and Arlington streets, police said. Her injuries are not considered life-threatening.

On Wednesday, just after 12:15 p.m., someone shot a 37-year-old man in his lower leg in the area of 54th Street and Gainor Road, also in Overbrook, investigators said. He was transported to Lankenau Medical Center in stable condition.

Authorities said a 39-year-old man was taken to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in critical condition after he was shot in his thigh and arm at 9 a.m. Wednesday on the 1500 block of S. 26th Street in South Philadelphia.

A 26-year-old man was run over by a U-Haul vehicle after being shot just before 1 a.m. Wednesday at a gas station on the 2900 block of Abbottsford Avenue in East Falls, according to investigators.

Police said a gunman got out of a car and shot the victim in his left calf and right ankle. He was then hit by the U-Haul before officers arrived and rushed him to Temple University Hospital in critical condition, authorities said.

The shooting suspect was not apprehended, but officers did pull over the U-Haul nearby on the 3900 block of Henry Avenue and the woman behind the wheel was taken in for questioning, investigators said.

In the same area, a 20-year-old man was shot several times just after 9:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 3200 block of McMichael Street in the Philadelphia Housing Authority’s Abbottsford Homes development, police said.

He was hospitalized in critical condition. There was no word on whether the shootings could be connected.

Earlier Tuesday, just before 7:30 p.m., a 39-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to his thigh on the 800 block of Filbert Street in Center City, authorities said. He is expected to physically recover.

No one was immediately apprehended in connection with any of the shootings.
