10 can’t-miss comedy shows in Philly for November

With November now here, there are countless end-of-the-year stressors. Visiting family! Holiday shopping! Securing opening night tickets for “Star Wars Episode VIII!” While nothing can really alleviate these annual spikes in your blood pressure, local and national comedians will once again be gracing stages in and around Philadelphia to help take your mind off of everything, even if it is only for an evening or weekend. Here are ten can’t-miss comedy shows for November.

1. Hollywood Babble-On and Kevin Smith

Indie filmmaker Kevin Smith (Clerks, Dogma, Red State) brings his vocal talents to Punchline Philly in Fishtown for two separate shows! First, on November 3, Smith and Ralph Garman will host their celebrity and movie gossip podcast Hollywood Babble-on. Then, on November 4, Smith returns to the stage for a solo show, during which he will speak—at length—about anything on his mind.

2. Big League

Local comedians Ari Fishbein and Michael S. Watkins bring their comedy and music show to the Barbary for a night of full entertainment. Taking the stage for November will be comedians Jon DelCollo, Kat Mosely, Annie Paradis, Brandon Jackson, and Ian Fidance. Meanwhile, local band Darla will season the evening with its unique big band musical stylings. If you can’t make it, don’t worry! Big League will return to the Barbary every first Saturday for a new show.

3. Brian Posehn

You might recognize Brian Posehn’s signature monotonous delivery from Mission Hill, The Sarah Silverman Program, The Big Bang Theory, or any other of his numerous TV and movie credits. Posehn will grace the Helium stage in Rittenhouse Square with his dry and nerdy wit for three nights!

4. Lizzie Cooperman

The insanely hilarious Lizzie Cooperman will be in from L.A. for one night only at Good Good Comedy Theater in Chinatown. Cooperman is best known for her extensive written work on The Eric Andre Show and Not Safe with Nikki Glaser and currently hosts the Facebook web series That Detox Life alongside Emily Blotnick.

5. Rhett and Link Tour of Mythically

Popular Internet comedy duo Rhett and Link keep audiences on and offline laughing with several acclaimed YouTube series and podcasts, as well as appearances on NPR, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, and Conan. The duo bring their brand of hilarity to the Keswick Theatre in Glenside with their Tour of Mythicality, named for their renowned daily YouTube series Good Mythical Morning.

6. Tell Me a Story: Wassailing

Area storyteller Hillary Rea returns to Shot Tower Coffee in Queen Village for the final Tell Me a Story of 2017. Armed with their interpretations of “wassailing,” the stage will be graced with both hilarious and poignant stories from area comedians and storytellers Hannah Trav, Alejandro Morales, Kristen Finger, Nisse Greenberg, and  David Hutchinson.

7. A Die Hard Christmas (Book Release Show)

Philadelphia’s favorite comedian, Doogie Horner (America’s Got Talent) graces his hometown stage with not only his comedic skills, but also his writing talents. Horner is celebrating the release of his latest book, A Die Hard Christmas: The Illustrated Classic, which of course tells the timeless holiday tale of Bruce Willis’ action movie staple John McClane. The show includes a live dramatic reading of the book as well as a few special guests and discussions.

8. Andy Blitz

Award-winning comedian Andy Blitz visits Philadelphia for one night and one night only. Blitz is nationally recognized for his work on Master of None with Aziz Ansari and his on-location segments on NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien.

9. Chris Rock

Comedy superstar Chris Rock will conclude the 2017 Blackout Tour for one night only at the Borgata in Atlantic City. The always-hilarious Rock is best known for his television work on Saturday Night Live, In Living Color, and Everybody Hates Chris, as well as for his roles in movies such as Grown-Ups, Dogma, and Madagascar.

10. Black Friday Comedy Marathon

Why fight with crowds of shoppers at the area shopping malls when you could instead experience a huge lineup of nearly every comedy act in the area? Yes, for a whopping 40 straight hours, comedians, improvisers, sketch performers, and storytellers will take to the PHIT Stage in Rittenhouse Square for the annual Black Friday Comedy Marathon. The show kicks off at 9 a.m. on Black Friday and continues straight through—even overnight—until 1 a.m. on Sunday, November 26.
