The Eagles’ quarterback watch is on,
Yes, Mike Vick is still the starter, according to coach Chip Kelly. However, the results of an MRI on Vick’s injured hamstring don’t appear very good. Kelly, who wouldn’t divulge the exact results, termed Vick “day-to-day.”
“I don’t know if he’ll play Sunday,” Kelly said. “I don’t get the results. They just told me what he is and what he isn’t. They just said he’s day-to-day, and I don’t know. I know he probably won’t be going tomorrow, but we’ll see where he is after that.”
The follow-up questions might as well have been fired out of Nick Foles’ cannon. The relentless media, frothing for a quarterback controversy, wants to know if Foles can steal the starting job from an injured Vick. Kelly wouldn’t say that, but he did admit that there is always an open competition.
“If he plays well? Yeah, there’s always open competition,” Kelly said. “So if Nick goes out there and throws 100-for-100 and throws 27 touchdown passes, then, yeah.”
As far as a timetable on Vick’s status, Kelly offered little.
“Six days until the game. I don’t know. It depends,” he said. ” I’m not going to tell you, coach, you said Thursday, and then Sunday they say he’s a 100 percent and I say he’s playing. I don’t know until we see how it goes. I’m not going to predict the future. I don’t know where we are with that.”
