2 killed, 9 injured in Philly shootings

Two people were killed and nine others were injured by gunfire Tuesday night and early Wednesday in Philadelphia, authorities said.

In Hunting Park, police declared a barricade situation after an armed man locked himself inside a house on the 3900 block of Dell Street at around 2 a.m. Wednesday. The stand-off lasted four hours, until just after 6 a.m., when a SWAT team entered the property.

They found a 40-year-old woman dead inside with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers apprehended the man and recovered a gun, police said.

Authorities have not identified the suspect or released any additional information about the incident.

On Tuesday night, at around 9:30 p.m., a 43-year-old man was shot multiple times in the back near where he lived on the 2000 block of Dennie Street in Nicetown, police said.

Officers rushed him to Temple University Hospital, where he died 20 minutes later. Authorities identified him as Kareem White.

There was no word on a motive in the killing, and no arrests have been made.

Investigators said a 33-year-old man was driving at around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday when he was shot in both knees. The shooting occurred near a gas station at 22nd Street and Allegheny Avenue in the Tioga section of North Philadelphia.

He was transported to the hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Two men were hospitalized after shots rang out at around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday on the 6000 block of Reinhard Street in Southwest Philadelphia.

Officers found a 26-year-old man with a gunshot wound to the back, and the other victim, a 25-year-old man, showed up at Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital with a gunshot wound to his left leg. Both were in stable condition, authorities said.

About 15 minutes earlier, in Mantua, a 28-year-old man and 22-year-old woman were struck by gunfire on the 3900 block of Fairmount Avenue.

The man, who had been shot in the back of the head, was rushed to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center, where he is in stable condition, police said. The woman is being treated for a gunshot wound to her right arm.

A 41-year-old man was injured when a gunman opened fire on his house at around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday on the 6600 block of Jackson Street in Tacony.

A delivery person had just arrived with food, and, as the victim was closing his door, someone fired shots into his house. The man was struck in his right thigh while in the living room, investigators said.

He was transported to Jefferson Torresdale Hospital and is in stable condition, according to police.

Police said a 27-year-old man arrived at the hospital at around 8:45 p.m. Tuesday after being shot in the abdomen near the intersection of Ditman and Hellerman streets, around the corner from the scene of the Jackson Street shooting.

His injuries are not life-threatening. Investigators have not said whether the two incidents could be connected.

A 20-year-old man was rushed to the hospital at around 9:45 p.m. Tuesday after he was shot once in the abdomen on the 2300 block of N. Park Avenue in North Philadelphia. Authorities said he is in critical condition at Temple Hospital.
