2 killed, 9 injured in weekend shootings

Two men were killed and at least nine people were injured in separate shootings over the weekend in Philadelphia.

On Saturday, at around 2:45 a.m., a 39-year-old man was shot several times at the corner of 25th Street and Ridge Avenue in North Philadelphia, authorities said. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene. Investigators said a gun was found next to his body.

A double shooting near Temple University’s main campus in North Philadelphia left a man dead and a woman injured, according to police.

Officers responded just before 1:30 a.m. Saturday to the 1700 block of Cecil B. Moore Avenue, where they found a man in his 20s with gunshot wounds to his chest, back and right leg, authorities said.

Campus police rushed him to Temple University Hospital, and he succumbed to his injuries just after 4:15 a.m. Saturday, according to investigators.

The other victim, a 22-year-old woman, was shot in her thigh and hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries. She is a recent Temple graduate, said Jennifer D. Griffin, the college’s vice president of public safety, in a statement.

On Sunday, at around 6 a.m., someone shot a 23-year-old man in his right foot on the 5300 block of Lindbergh Boulevard, near Bartram’s Garden in Southwest Philadelphia, police said. He was hospitalized in stable condition.

In Nicetown, a 39-year-old man was shot in his back at around 2:30 a.m. Sunday on the 4200 block of N. 17th Street, according to investigators. He was taken to Temple University Hospital in critical condition.

Three people were hospitalized after gunfire erupted at around 9:15 p.m. Saturday on the 3300 block of Reed Street, by Stinger Square in Grays Ferry.

Authorities said a 32-year-old woman was shot twice in her stomach, and a 35-year-old man was hit in both of his thighs. The third victim, a 28-year-old man, was struck in his left hip, police said. All three are expected to survive.

A 23-year-old man was in critical condition after being shot in his neck just after 7 p.m. Saturday on the 4200 block of Parrish Street in West Philadelphia, investigators said.

Early Saturday, at around 12:45 a.m., a gunman shot a 32-year-old man twice in his abdomen on the 500 block of W. Lindley Avenue in Olney, police said. Officers took him to Einstein Medical Center, and he is expected to survive.

The suspect was last seen driving east on Lindley in a gray vehicle, investigators said.

Just after 12:15 a.m. Saturday, a 30-year-old man showed up to Temple University Hospital after he was shot in his chest on the 3900 block of N. 9th Street in the Hunting Park neighborhood, according to authorities. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Police did not report any arrests in the immediate aftermath of any of the shootings.
