3 Things we saw at the ice rink

Flyers 3, Canadiens 2

1 Some things never change — After being badly outplayed for nearly two periods — and down by two goals — the listless Flyers suddenly remembered this was the Montreal team they owned in last year’s conference finals. Ville Leino’s late, second-period goal made it a game, then Darroll Powe and Braydon Coburn set up Claude Giroux and James van Riemsdyk, respectively, for the tying and winning goals.

2 November rain — No matter how much the Flyers tried to play this up as a big game, it didn’t work. November hockey, even between division leaders, with a sincere dislike for each other, doesn’t compare with playing for a trip to the Stanley Cup Finals. The hitting was virtually nonexistent, and the passion and intensity simply wasn’t there from either the players or the crowd.

3 Mad Max’s revenge — Maxim Lapierre, whom Scott Hartnell accused of choking him during an altercation last week, did his damage with his stick, scoring both Montreal goals. Neither was a work of art — the first was a 60-foot knuckler, which fooled Brian Boucher, with the second caroming off Andrej Meszaros’ stick and past Boucher. Hartnell & Co’s. threats of revenge proved empty, as Lapierre and fellow pest P.K. Subban skated freely all night.
