A 3-year-old boy was shot in the face while in his mother’s arms Sunday evening in South Philadelphia, authorities said.

Investigators said a 23-year-old woman was carrying her son just after 5 p.m. while walking on the 1500 block of Taney Street when she heard two or three shots. She then realized her child had been struck in the cheek, according to police.

A neighbor responded quickly and drove them to a fire station at 31st Street and Grays Ferry Avenue, authorities said. From there, the boy was taken to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, where he was listed in stable condition.

Police said Monday that detectives have recovered evidence indicating that the shots were fired inside a house on Taney Street. No arrests have been made.
