$43M project on North Broad

Two big-name restaurateurs will be part of a $43 million mixed-use project that will redevelop a desolate block along North Broad Street and create hundreds of jobs, officials announced yesterday.

The development, called “600 North Broad Street,” will occupy the entire block of Mount Vernon Street between Broad and 15th, including the former Wilkie Buick car dealership. It will feature restaurants by Stephen Starr and Marc Vetri, a 97-unit apartment building and public green space. Construction should be completed later this year.

“This revitalization is a great boost for North Philadelphia and for North Broad Street,” said Mayor Michael Nutter, who is making several job-related announcements this week. The project will generate 232 permanent jobs and 150 construction jobs, officials said.
