5 killed, 7 injured in weekend shootings

Five people were killed in less than 24 hours Saturday in Philadelphia, and weekend violence left at least eight others injured.

Authorities said a 25-year-old man was shot several times just after 9 p.m. Saturday on the 1500 block of Saint Luke Street in the Nicetown section of North Philadelphia. He died a short time later at Einstein Medical Center.

Investigators recovered a gun at the scene, but they have not made an arrest, according to police.

A 29-year-old man was fatally shot in the parking lot of a gas station just after 5 a.m. Saturday on the 5000 block of Wynnefield Avenue in the Wynnefield Heights neighborhood, authorities said.

Less than two hours earlier, at around 3:30 a.m., a 34-year-old man was shot in the head on the 1800 block of E. Tioga Street in Harrowgate, police said. Medics pronounced him dead at the scene.

In Southwest Philadelphia, a 46-year-old man died after being shot in the chest, both arms and right foot just after 1:30 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot of a Rite Aid pharmacy at 68th Street and Woodland Avenue.

Officers who responded to the shooting recovered a taser, according to investigators.

A man was killed and another was seriously wounded when someone opened fire at around 12:45 a.m. Saturday on the 1700 block of S. Hollywood Street in South Philadelphia.

Police said a 30-year-old man who had been shot multiple times died a short time later at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. The other victim, a 25-year-old man, was in critical condition with wounds to his leg and buttocks.

On Sunday, at around 3 a.m., a man was stabbed several times in the abdomen in a parking lot on the 4300 block of Griscom Street in Frankford, authorities said.

The victim, described as being in his late 40s or early 50s, was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where he was in critical condition, according to police.

Three people were hospitalized after gunfire erupted at around 12:15 a.m. Sunday on the 1800 block of Judson Street in North Philadelphia. Shots were fired inside a home and on the street, investigators said.
A 20-year-old man was shot in the back and chest; a 25-year-old man was hit in the right thigh; and a 31-year-old woman was struck in the right shoulder, police said. All three are expected to survive.

In Kensington, two men were taken to Temple University Hospital after a shooting at around 3:15 p.m. Saturday on the 3100 block of Kensington Avenue.

Authorities said a 31-year-old man was shot in the back and a 21-year-old man was shot in the buttocks and leg. Both were listed in critical condition.

Earlier Saturday, at around 6:45 a.m., a 49-year-old man was shot once in the knee on the 1900 block of W. Erie Avenue in the Tioga section of North Philadelphia, police said. His injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Police reported no arrests in the immediate aftermath of any of the incidents.
