A frail Burt Reynolds keeps fans laughing at Philly Comic Con

There was a time when you’d have said “no way” to the thought of a celeb like Burt Reynolds — Mr. Cool Himself — attending a Comic Con.

No way? Way!

There he was Saturday at Comic Con in Philadelphia, 79 and still standing — even if it was with a cane –, ensconced in a black velvet jacket and looking at the world through rose-colored glasses.

Really.

The Wizard World Comic Con in Philadelphia was the Smoky and the Bandit star’s first every geek fet.

His second book is out in November and he appeared at Comic Con to meet fans and participate in a Q&A session , People magazine reports.

“I think it’s a good time to find out what it’s all about,” Reynolds told the Philadelphia Inquirer last week, ahead of the convention. “I always enjoy talking to fans and I’m usually very pleased with their curiosity about my career, what I’m doing, what I’m not doing, and why I’m not doing more.”

The Boogie Nights star was photographed arriving at the event wearing rose-colored glasses and a black velvet blazer, relying on a cane to walk.

Reynolds new memoir is called, But Enough About Me , and People says it will examine his many famous romantic entanglements, including Sally Field and Loni Anderson, and his other private and professional ties.

“When you write a book like this, you have to tell the whole thing, and there are days when everything isn’t wonderful and there were people who I thought were asses,” the actor told the Inquirer . “I’m having a lot of fun, but it’s beginning to look a little bit like the dictionary.”

His frail appearance has been attributed, in part, to a set accident he suffered three decades ago while filming “City Heat.”

Reynolds, who was famous for doing many of his own stunts, was slammed in the face with a chair and broke several bones that made eating difficult.

An addiction to painkillers gripped him for years and since 2009, he has had both major back and heart surgery.
