Abortion probe leads to firings

In the wake of the grand-jury report into Kermit Gosnell’s abortion clinic, Gov. Tom Corbett yesterday announced that some workers in the Departments of Health and State failed to provide proper oversight.

“Unacceptable doesn’t say enough. It’s despicable. This isn’t government run amok. This was government not running at all,” Corbett said, citing a failure to investigate complaints and conduct inspections. “It’s up to a jury to decide Gosnell’s guilt or innocence. It’s up to me to stop such horrors from happening again from a government standpoint.”

Seven state employees have been fired or resigned and four are suspended, Corbett said. He also outlined new controls and practices moving forward.
