All you need to know about new Eagles WR Keric Wheatfall

The Eagles have made a subtle roster move to kickstart the week, signing UDFA WR Keric Wheatfall.

If his name sounds familiar, that’s because he was one of 19 players invited to Eagles rookie minicamp. He obviously did something to stand out, because now he’s been invited to compete for a roster spot over the Summer.

Keric Wheatfall stands at 6’1, 194 lbs, and is coming off of a strong senior year for Fresno State where he ranked third in team receiving with 38 receptions for 616 yards and 4 touchdowns. He averaged 16.2 yards per catch, the second-highest of any of his teammates, and registered at least one catch in each game played.

He’s a possession-based receiver who surprisingly doesn’t tick a lot of the uber-athletic boxes Howie Roseman has recently implemented.

Going off of some brief highlights, the one good thing to see is that he can make a lot of contested catches. The bad thing is that most of his highlights are contested catches, potentially highlighting a struggle in creating separation.

However, Nick Sirianni is the teams’ resident WR whisperer and is avidly not a fan of banana routes. If he sees something he likes in his skill-set, be it work-rate, physicality for special teams, or catch radius and ball-tracking, then we can be sure he’d be willing to polish his route-running.

Wheatfall could be a player to watch over the summer as an underdog vying for a practice squad spot.
