Amtrak is now open to ideas for further development of 30th Street Station and its surrounding area.
The transit company announced Monday that it will accept proposals to develop a comprehensive master plan for the transportation hub and its further integration with the University City neighborhood. The deadline to submit is Nov. 18.
In accordance with its partnership with Drexel University and Brandywine Realty Trust,Amtrak is looking for ways to implement Drexel President JohnFry’s vision: to build a platform above the 12 acres of train yards between the college and the station.
Fry’s hope is the mutual space would invite retail and residential development, including the expansion of the West Philadelphia campus.
The 80-year-old station services trains for Amtrak as well as SEPTA and NJ Transit.
Parties interested in submitting a proposal may contact Carlton Myers at carlton.myers@amtrak.com.
