Andre Iguodala a first-time All-Star

Andre Iguodala has had better seasons in terms of statistics. He’s never been on a team this successful.

Iguodala was rewarded for the Sixers’ 18-8 start to the season as he was named to the Eastern Conference All-Star team Thursday night. It’s the eight-year veteran’s first All-Star appearance even though he’s averaging just 12.9 points per game, his lowest mark since 2005-06.

Iguodala acknowledged that the Sixers’ turnaround has a lot to do with the honor.

“That would be almost common sense,” Iguodala said before the teams were announced Wednesday. “But sometimes, everyone doesn’t have common sense.”

Iguodala was selected over other Eastern Conference “snubs” like Josh Smith, Rajon Rondo, Danny Granger, Brandon Jennings and teammate Lou Williams.

“We feel ‘Dre’s one of the best all-around forwards in the game,” Doug Collins said Wednesday. “It’ll really be a sorry thing if we’re (18-8) and somebody on our team doesn’t get recognized in that All-Star game.”

Iguodala won’t be the only one in Orlando for the last weekend in February. Evan Turner was selected to the Rising Stars Challenge as one of the top-9 second-year players. And Jodie Meeks is cautiously optimistic that he’ll be invited to compete in the 3-point shootout for the first time.
