Anti-police graffiti found in West Philadelphia

Police are looking for those responsible for two messages targeting Philadelphia Police officers spray-painted on property in West Philadelphia.

According to officer Christine O’Brien, a police spokeswoman, the tagging at 4800 Baltimore and at 4900 Catherine both occurred early Friday in Cedar Park.

At the residence on Baltimore Avenue “Cop Lives Don’t Matter” was spray-painted on the fence surrounding a private lot, O’Brien said, which plays off the demonstrator’s “Black Lives Matter” chant.

On Catherine Street, “PPD Killed Brandon Tate Brown,” was spray-painted on the side of the Third World Lounge, which refers to the death of Brown, 26, who was shot and killed by police during a traffic stop in Mayfair on Monday.

A third message, “F— the Cops,” was painted on the side of an abandoned church not far from the other two locations. This tag remained by Sunday afternoon, but t he “Cop Lives Don’t Matter” tag was already painted over.

O’Brien said no charges have been filed, but the incident is still under investigation.

“The real crime here is somebody destroyed someone else’s property,” she said.

Police have not estimated the cost of repairs.

The graffiti finding comes days after a Philadelphia Fire Department medic posted a photo to his Instagram which showed two black men pointing guns at a white police officer’s head.
