If you need an escape from the city this summer, the coastal town of Atlantic City is a pretty great choice. Here are a few reasons why.

Shows

Atlantic City has always been a destination and stop for a ton of performing artists, and the summer of 2023 is no different. A few standouts for the sunny season include Ice Cube coming to Ocean Casino Resort on Friday, July 7; Santana at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino on both July 28 and 29; The Goo Goo Dolls at Borgata on Aug. 11, plus the Tidal Wave Music Festival.

The latter will be calling the beaches of Atlantic City home in August from the 11 to 13. Described as a “Roar On The Shore” country music festival, the event will feature Thomas Rhett, Jason Aldean, Brooks & Dunn, Cole Swindell, Nate Smith and more.

This isn’t music, but the Visit Atlantic City Airshow – Thunder Over the Boardwalk 2023 is also an annual, must-see attraction that will return this August and is expected to draw the attention of thousands of military and aviation lovers from all over the world to Atlantic City.

New experiences

The year 2023 holds a lot of new experiences for AC. For one, The Island Water Park at Showboat Atlantic City Hotel boasts 100,000 square feet of attractions and is set to open this summer. The $100 million project will feature a clear retractable roof (for year-round waterpark access) plus plenty of water slides, pools, restaurants, bars and more.

The Hook is another new facet that will call the coastal town home. The city’s first-ever entertainment residency is located right on the boardwalk and will operate every week of the year. As a release states, The Hook venue will feature a world-premier live show with an international cast in a 422-seat theatre; a second home for Spiegelworld’s critically acclaimed Italian-American psychedelic restaurant Superfrico, but with a coastal Italian twist; and a myriad of discoverable bars with an elevated cocktail program curated by award-winning mixologists.

Food and drinks

There are plenty of ways to indulge this summer in Atlantic City if you’re looking to grab some treats. Good Dog Bar might be a Philly staple, but recently, the brand also moved to open a new location in Atlantic City to offer great food and drinks, plus a second-floor gaming room.

There’s also the annual Atlantic City Beer and Music Festival, which takes place this year from June 3 to 4 at Bader Field. The event will feature over 120 breweries and brew masters with plenty of live music from bands like the Dropkick Murphys and 311, and of course, fun activities.

Other staples of the summer include the Borgata’s beer garden and Tennessee Avenue Beer Hall for some outdoor oasis picks, Dolce Mare at Ocean Casino for incredible Italian food and views of the ocean, or, you can stroll through The Quarter at the Tropicana for an abundant amount of options.
