Sony has recently made an announcement that revolutionized the music and movie world. Bad Bunny, the Latin Grammy winner, will be playing “El Muerto,” the protagonist of the next Marvel movie.
In the world of comics, the character of “El Muerto” is striking because he has a curious narrative line. He is Juan Carlos Estrada Sánchez, a fighter whose powers come from an ancient pact that includes a mask and extraordinary abilities. The legacy has been passed down from generation to generation, but he became the exception when his father saved “El Muerto” from certain death. But in return, he was murdered, forcing him to take on a tragic quest for justice. Moreover, in order to achieve the powers he is entitled to by inheritance, he must fight until he becomes worthy of them.
This announcement became a milestone, as he will become the first Latino superhero to have his own movie in the Marvel universe, right after Sony recently came out with “Madame Web,” which marked the first female character to have her own film in the Spider-Man universe.
About the opportunity to star in this film, the singer expressed that “it’s an incredible experience. David (Leitch) is amazing,” he said, adding that “I loved working with him on my first film and now I have an opportunity to bring “El Muerto” to life.”
He noted that the role has a lot to do with his interests:
“It’s amazing, it’s incredible. I love wrestling. I grew up watching wrestling and I’m a wrestler. I’m a former champion, so I love this character. I think it’s the perfect role for me and it’s going to be epic.”
According to specialized sites, the filming of the movie, which will begin on July 29, will be limited due to the artist’s busy schedule of presentations. The film is expected to be released on Jan. 12, 2024.
For two consecutive years, Bad Bunny has been the artist with the most streams on Spotify. In the film world, the singer appeared in “F9: The Fast Saga” and also in the Netflix series “Narcos: Mexico.”
He is also currently on his World’s Hottest Tour.
