A 38-year-old man’s belt buckle stopped a bullet yesterday in a South Philadelphia shooting, police said.
Edward Lyons, 24, of the 1500 block of S. Stanley Street, was charged with shooting 38-year-old and 24-year-old men in the abdomen. The latter is in critical conditionat The Hospital of The University of Pennsylvania.
The first victim was shot and the bullet lodged in his belt buckle. It never penetrated his body.
Police heard gunshots about 4 p.m. while patrolling in the 2700 Block of Dickinson Street. Lyons was seen holding a gun and ran. Police chased him on foot to the 1400 block of S. Newkirk Street and arrested him. The gun was found on a porch roof on the same street.
Lyons is charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.
