Ben Roethlisberger beware, the Eagles have become quarterback killers

It’s been two weeks and the Eagles have knocked out two opposing quarterbacks.

In a violent league, Philly has seen some pretty violent results on the opposing sideline as they have sent Browns QB Robert Griffin III and Bears QB Jay Cutler to stadium exam rooms in back to back weeks.

RG3 is now expected to be able to return after 10-12 weeks and Cutler’s thumb injury has the Bears — according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport — preparing for a lengthy absence though he won’t require surgery.

Some luck certainly played a role, but the Eagles’ front four has been getting in quarterbacks’ faces on a high percentage of plays thus far. Philly has six sacks and has six players with tackles for loss.

BenRoethlisberger comes to town Sunday with the Steelers, for a 4:25 p.m. start on CBS, and they are undoubtedly a step up from the lowly Browns and Bears, but there will be pressure.Roethlisberger will by far be the best quarterback the team has faced thus far.

“Ben is big, strong, physical in the pocket, hard to bring down and continues to have great vision down the field,” Eagles coach Doug Pederson said.

Philly’s defense has to, at least on paper, intimidate the Steelers a bit. The Eagles lead the entire NFL in point differential and have a plus-five turnover differential having turned it over zero times thus far.

Roethlisberger has only played in Philadelphia once before, but the memory hasn’t faded. The Steelers signalcaller told a Pittsburgh radio station he actually mulled retirement after being bruised and battered at Lincoln Financial Field.

“I’m not a big ‘remembering games’ type guy, especially losses, but that’s one that I do remember vividly,” Roethlisberger said.”I remember getting sacked eight or nine times. I remember driving home from the airport after that game and thinking to myself, ‘Do I want to keep doing this? Do I really want to keep playing football?’”

The Eagles hope they can make it just as welcoming when he returns this coming weekend.
