Eagles claim they aren’t worried about Jordan Matthews, Nelson Agholor drops

It would have been a much bigger story had the Eagles lost Monday, but it’s no less surprising — and no less worrisome. The Eagles’ top two wide receivers sometimes have butterfingers. And Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz is getting burned.

Drops by Jordan Matthews and Nelson Agholor cost the Eagles two more touchdowns against the Bears, though ultimately it wouldn’t matter as Philly prevailed against Chicago29-14. Head coach Doug Pederson is not panicking though.

“They continue to work every day,” the coach said. “You know, sometimes things like that happen. They know. They understand, they’re professionals. They pride themselves in catching the football. You could tell last night they were mad at themselves.

“I’m not going to stop calling plays to them because I know they’re explosive guys for us. We’ve just got to continue to work.”

Matthews has caught just 13-of-23 targets over the first two games and Agholor 8-of-12. Many times the defense plays a part, or the quarterback makes a bad throw, but Wentz has shown he is rarely off target.

The drops won’t dissuade Wentz and Pederson from calling their numbers though.

“For me, as a playcaller and being in that position as a quarterback, I actually want to call plays to go right back to those guys and get them right back catching the football and focused in and letting those guys work,” Pederson said.
