Bernard Hopkins makes history again

Bernard Hopkins has never been bashful. At age 48, why start now?

Hopkins scored a 12-round unanimous decision Saturday night over Tavoris Cloud to earn the IBF light heavyweight title. He is the oldest boxer to claim a major championship, breaking the record he set last May when he beat Jean Pascal.

“I don’t believe anybody in the 175 weight class and possibly the 168 class can beat me,” Hopkins said after beating the 30-year-old Cloud. “It was great to break (in) the Barclays Center with a (legendary) performance.”

Hopkins connected on 169 of 417 punches and improved his overall record to 53-6-2. The fight marked the 19th title bout of Hopkins’ illustrious career.
