Birds snap skid with 20-13 win at Redskins

LeSean McCoy took the handoff, swept to the outside and appeared to have the game-sealing first down on a crucial second-and-3 with 2:26 showing on the clock.

Naturally, the jovial running back had to celebrate somehow. His choice? To punch his coach in the gut.

“He can do whatever he wants today,” said Andy Reid, who buckled as McCoy’s fist connected with his chest.

“I thought he was a tough guy, maybe he’s not,” McCoy said. “I got to ask Tammy [Reid’s wife], ‘How tough is he?’”

McCoy, who credited Brian Westbrook for the maneuver, was ruled a yard short on the play. But following a failed challenge, Mike Vick plowed ahead for the final yard a few seconds later. Vick’s run clinched a 20-13 victory over the Washington Redskins and snapped the Eagles’ four-game losing streak.

“We’re going to enjoy this victory,” Vick said. “We’re going to enjoy our bye week, then come back and start the season all over again.”

The Eagles are off this week before returning to host Dallas Oct. 30.

Despite a wild week, which included fans calling for Reid’s job, the team remains focused. They insist they are taking it “one game at a time,” but most players still feel the NFC East is there for the taking.

After yesterday’s win, the Eagles improved to 1-1 in the division.

“No question,” said center Jason Kelce, when asked if the Eagles could still win the East.

“I don’t think it’s out of our reach by any stretch of the imagination. I think we’ve been getting better each and every week, and we’re striving for consistency.”
