Eagles: Kurt Coleman, defense among highlights

1. Safety net:

Kurt Coleman was reinserted into the lineup and made the most of it.

The second-year safety recorded three interceptions, marking the first time since 1966 that an Eagle had three picks in a game.

It looks like Coleman is the starting strong safety moving forward, with Nate Allen — who nabbed a first-half interception — holding down the free safety spot. Both players have seen their stock soar.

2. Winning in the turnover battle:

The Eagles, who entered with a league-worst, minus-10 takeaway ratio, preached all week about limiting turnovers.

Well, that message was received in Washington, where the only real blemishes were two interceptions.

The Eagles’ defense made up for those by collecting four of their own. Mike Vick did lose the football once, but he turned it into a 15-yard roughing-the-passer penalty.

3. Hip, hip, hooray:

Vick knows how to keep it loose, even in the heat of battle. After scrambling for 31 yards down the sideline, he kicked a mini-football right at a Redskins cheer leader. Vick stopped and pointed to his heart.

After the game, the Eagles QB concluded his press conference by apologizing to the Redskins cheerleaders.

Meanwhile, Vick left yesterday’s game briefly in the third quarter after absorbing a LaRon Landry hit. Vince Young came in for two plays, which included an interception, before Vick returned on the team’s next offensive series.

“I got hit and I had some dirt in my eyes and I really couldn’t see,” Vick said.
