A 14-year-old boy died after being shot in the chest Saturday night in Overbrook, authorities said.
He was walking with friends just before 8:30 p.m. near 60th Street and Haddington Lane when the group heard a rapid succession of gunfire, according to investigators.
Police said the teenager was struck in the chest and succumbed to his injuries just before 9:30 p.m. at Lankenau Medical Center. No one was arrested in the immediate aftermath of the shooting, and authorities did not comment on a possible motive.
On Sunday morning, the corner was quiet, with police tape still blowing from utility poles and chalk evidence markers visible near the curb.
Two kids sitting on a porch across the street from the scene said they heard the shots but did not know the victim, whose name has not been released by authorities.
The teenager was one of six people killed Saturday and Sunday in Philadelphia, and he is the fourth person under the age of 18 fatally shot this year, according to the City Controller’s Office gun violence dashboard.
