In the final moments before the NFL Draft kicked off, the Philadelphia Eagles dropped another pipe bomb on the rest of the NFL. A.J Brown has agreed to a 3-year contract extension with the team, keeping him in the City of Brotherly Love through 2029, and making him the highest-paid wideout in NFL history in the process.
The move comes as a slight surprise given that the Eagles had only just given DeVonta Smith a big-time contract extension, but after seeing Amon-Ra St. Brown getting a huge deal in response, the Eagles responded.
There are some huge names on the fringe of some big time extensions and the price for premier wideouts appears to only be sky-rocketing as the years go by. If St. Brown was able to secure a $120M extension, then what would that mean for guys like Justin Jefferson, CeeDee Lamb, and a flurry of young superstars?
A.J Brown is a bonafide star. In his two short seasons as an Eagle, the former Titan has recorded 2,952 yards and 18 total touchdowns. He garnered Pro Bowl recognition in both campaigns and in doing so, entrenched himself as one of the best receivers to ever wear a midnight green jersey.
The Eagles have been on a real mission to solidify their offense for years to come. As things stand, A.J Brown, DeVonta Smith, Jalen Hurts, Saquon Barkley, Jordan Mailata, AND Landon Dickerson will all be grouped together for at least four seasons, which is an absolutely terrifying thought for the rest of the league.
Philadelphia ensures that one of the brightest stars the City has seen for quite some time stays on the team, granting him the long-term future he absolutely deserved, as well as making him the highest-paid wideout in NFL history knowing that his price is only going to go up once other dominoes around the league begin to fall.
