BREAKING: Eagles draft Quinyon Mitchell with 22nd overall pick

After a rollercoaster opening to the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles were able to somehow snag one of the top corners in this years’ class without having to trade after all. Quinyon Mitchell was the selection at pick #22, giving the Eagles a potential CB1 to hang their hat on.

6 quarterbacks were taken in the first round of the NFL Draft which sparked scenarios that next to nobody thought would be possible. The Eagles sat on their hands watching the board fall into their laps and by the time they were on the clock, every single cornerback was available. They had their pick of the litter, and that pick was Toledo’s Quinyon Mitchell.

It was widely assumed that Mitchell would be taken much sooner than this, but somehow, fate pulled him down into the clutches of Howie Roseman.

Quinyon Mitchell

At 6’0, 195 lbs, Mitchell has the prototypical size for the cornerback position as well as possessing a RAS score of 9.79. A rare athlete who has elite ball skills and sensational short-area quickness, he’s got the instincts and tools to develop into a long-term starter at cornerback.

In 2023, Mitchell really flashed his skills at the catch point. The Toledo corner racked up 18 passes defensed along with 41 tackles.

This marks the first time that the Eagles have drafted a corner in the first round since Lito Sheppard. While we don’t yet know whether Mitchell will be in-line to compete for a starting role in 2024, it looks like the Birds have finally found a first-round corner they’re happy to invest in.

The Eagles have two selections in the second round and will be next on the clock at pick 50.
