Catch some funk uptown this Saturday at Project Pabst

Project Pabst is a daytime festival coming to the Electric Factory on Saturday afternoon. But the party doesn’t stop at the end of the festival itself. Funk band Vulfpeck will take over the the venue at 421 N. 7th St. to play one groovy after party. So what can we expect from the late-night show?

“We’re going to bring it,” said bandleader, keyboardist and drummer Jack Stratton.

“It” can mean a lot of things- but in this case, that includes an entire horn section. Philly group Swift Technique will join Vulfpeck onstage to play on “Outro”, a track that incorporates a raspy and soulful saxophone solo. Swift Technique is a 12-member band that describes itself as Philadelphia’s own fiery funk extravaganza. This should blend well with Vulfpeck’s own diverse funk style. Their style from the fiery sound found in “Outro” to a smoother style found in “1612” and “Wait for the Moment.”

Stratton and the rest of the band recruit a horn section to play with them in every city. But even they don’t know what can happen on stage.

“The horn section can take it up a notch,” said Stratton. “When it works, it’s magical. When it doesn’t, it’s a train wreck. Highs are highs and lows are lows.”

This will be Vulfpeck’s first show in Philadelphia, although Stratton is no strangerin our fair city. He digs the Theater of the Living Arts and the rest of South St. But what about playing in the famous converted warehouse located near Northern Liberties?

“I’m excited to play this famous room,” said Stratton.

Vulfpeck and Philadelphia’s own Son Little will play the Electric Factory starting at 10 p.m. The lineup for the festival during the day includes Animal Collective, Hop Along, Beach Slang and more.

Philadelphia is the last in a series of Project Pabst festivals throughout the summer. Each event had its own unique line up. Other Project Pabst festivals took place in Denver, Portland and Atlanta.

If you want to skip the festival and head straight for the After Party, tickets are only $19.50. Festival tickets are $40. Or you can purchase a Combo ticket for $55 that will get you into both shows. But you better act fast- the Electric Factory recently announced on Twitter that Combo tickets are almost all sold out.
