Black Friday offers many opportunities for Philadelphians to shop till they drop, but if you want to support small businesses, there’s an even better day to take advantage — Small Business Saturday. The tradition hits every year on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, and luckily there are plenty of opportunities to show your support and love to different businesses right here in Philly.

With small businesses all around the city, it’s easy to narrow down areas to shop, and the East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District (EPABID) —home to more than 160 independently-owned shops and restaurants in the bustling South Philadelphia neighborhood  — is one of them. The EPABID is back for another packed year of deals on Small Business Saturday, an all-day affair with a plethora of retailers, service providers and restaurants offering specials, sidewalk sales and pop-up events Nov. 27. This is also part of the area’s “Deck the Ave” annual holiday event.

Philadelphians can discover a variety of businesses offering deals and one-of-a-kind opportunities, good for both the economy and for shoppers to check everything off of their holiday list. Many of these businesses are also offering some of the same sales on Black Friday as well.

Shopping opportunities and specials include A Novel Idea offering a “Shop Small Three-Day Sale” where everything is 10% off for in-store purchase for Black Friday and Small Business Saturday; Deja42 Art Gallery offering select handmade jewelry, mask charms, art and photography prints at 15% during Black Friday and Small Business Saturday; Frame Fatale showcasing Small Business Saturday giveaways like logo tote bags, and branded magnet chalkboards (for refrigerators or lockers), available while supplies last, plus complimentary gift wrapping; and Metro Mens Clothing knocking 20% off the entire store brimming with new winter arrivals, plus 20% off clearance.

But that’s not all.

Sermania Jewelry  will be offering extended hours for Small Business Saturday from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. with complimentary gift wrapping and 15% off select sterling silver; and South Fellini will be introducing their annual special custom-designed ornament and holiday shirt theme for 2021 on Saturday. On top of everything else, Philadelphia’s first retail shop dedicated to living a low-waste lifestyle, Good Buy Supply, will be celebrating one year in business with music, food, free gifts, deals and more.

The impact of Small Business Saturday doesn’t just stop at deals and specials, however.

As a release states, this year, in addition to shops along the avenue celebrating Small Business Saturday and the importance of shopping locally, East Passyunk Avenue BID and South Philadelphia-based filmmaker Joe Ronca have teamed up for round two of a series of heartfelt videos encouraging the public to “Keep Shopping Small.” Showcasing more than two dozen East Passyunk Avenue business owners expressing gratitude and appreciation for the immense support shown over the last two years, the video thanks locals and visitors for continuing to shop small and local during the holiday season.

“This holiday season, people’s commitment to shopping locally can mean a world of difference for our independent business community,” said Adam Leiter, Executive Director of the East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District in a statement. “When you spend locally, your dollar goes further, making a personal and positive impact that resonates with multiple small businesses.”
