Chinatown’s Hoyu Parade celebrates the dead

Today marks the Philadelphia Hoyu Chinese American Association’s fourth annual Hoyu Folk Culture Festival.

Various activities will be conducted to honor the memory of the dead and ancient Chinese gods including a parade from 12th and Vine streets in Chinatown around 11:30 a.m. to the Friendship Gate at 10th and Arch streets.

Large wooden puppets, a lion dance, a traditional opera and Chinese food will round out the celebration, named for a village on China’s southeastern coast.
