Eagles head coach Chip Kelly laughed off a question about Eagles veterans LeSean McCoy and Trent Cole getting into a shoving match during practice on Sunday.
“Their emotions got the better part of them and those things happen,” Kelly said Monday. “It’s no different than sometimes little kids don’t get along very well and throw Tonka trucks at each other. The fact that it made ‘Sportscenter’ must’ve meant that it was a real slow sports day, I can tell you that. Two kids push each other at a practice — it’s not a real big deal.”
Kelly said McCoy took exception to a tackle by Cole he felt was a little rougher than it needed to be.
Cole has been with the Eagles since 2005 when he was a fifth-round pick by the team. McCoy has been his teammate since he was drafted in the second round in 2009.
The two players are apparently friends off the field and McCoy said the two would “joke it out” in the locker room.
“The whole camp so far, they’ve just been touching just a little too much,” McCoy told reporters Sunday. “I’m trying to let them know ‘it’s OK, you can’ t cover me.’ We’ll go in the locker room area and talk it out, joke it out.”
