Every holiday season, Christmas Village in Philadelphia takes over LOVE Park and parts of City Hall to ring in this merry time of year.

In 2024, the annual activation will open on Nov. 28 — with a special preview weekend happening Nov. 23 and 24 — and run through Christmas Eve. Now in its 17th season, the open-air market will have some fan favorites returning, but also, a few new additions to check out this go-around.

“We are excited to welcome everyone back to Christmas Village in Philadelphia for 2024 for our 17th season,” said Christmas Village President Thomas Bauer in a statement.

“This year promises to be very special with the introduction of our first-ever vegan booth and delightful new flavors of Glühwein. With the annual return of the original Christkind and our partnership with CHOP for the ‘Festival of Trees,’ we look forward to creating cherished memories for families and friends this holiday season.”

As Bauer noted, Christmas Village in Philadelphia will highlight some new additions: A full-time Vegan booth, new and exclusive flavors of Glühwein, new keepsake mug designs, an updated Kids Wonderland section, and even a new activation called “Wedding Wednesdays”, which allows couples to tie the knot at the iconic locale.

Returning fan-favorite facets of the Village, on the other hand, span the Ferris Wheel, carousel, train and other popular rides/attractions, exclusive Christmas Village beers, and over 120 vendors serving up fare across Love Park, North Apron and the City Hall courtyard.

“Christmas Village has become a beloved family tradition in the heart of Center City, bringing together generations in one of Philadelphia’s most cherished public spaces,” noted Philadelphia Parks & Recreation Commissioner Susan Slawson in a statement.

“This annual event not only spreads holiday spirit but also provides an incredible opportunity for small business vendors to showcase their unique offerings, helping to boost the local economy while celebrating the rich culture of our city. It’s a cornerstone event that connects our community and highlights the best of Philly during the holidays.”

Vendors will sell hand-crafted goods (think, a selection of ornaments, toys, apparel, jewelry, decorations, home goods, and gourmet treats) and other food and drink beverages (like the popular Raclette cheese, strudel, waffles, and other savory and sweet bites.)

Food-wise, the German Grill, home to the authentic German charcoal swivel grill, will also be serving up a selection of fare spanning Käsespätzle, Bratwurst, Belgian Fries and more. The Alm, on the other hand, will help quench thirsts with a variety of beer, boozy hot chocolate and hot German Glühwein (spiced mulled wine.)

Back by popular demand, spirits tastings, presented by Boardroom Spirits, will return to Christmas Village every Thursday this season (except Thanksgiving). As a release notes, with this activity, guests will have the opportunity to sample a curated selection of festive spirits, crafted to complement the holiday atmosphere. Tickets for these exclusive tasting events are already available for purchase.

Another stand-out event comes with German American Weekend, presented by the German Consulate General in New York. On Dec. 14 and 15, visitors can check out performances by local dance groups, including the United German Hungarian Schuhplattlers and G.T.V. Almrausch, all dressed in traditional attire. Plus, there will be German games (Sunday only) like a stein holding competition and a bratwurst eating challenge. If you can’t make it out that weekend, the original Christkind from Nuremberg will also be back to open the market with her traditional prologue on Sunday, Dec. 1.

Family Weekend at Christmas Village will also be back this season. On Dec. 7 and 8, families can capture memories with Phil the Reindeer, the Village’s beloved mascot, meet princesses and superheroes, and enjoy a spin on the Ferris Wheel.

“The city sidewalks and LOVE Park are dressed in holiday style during this joyous time in Philadelphia. Christmas Village is a pivotal part of the city’s traditions,” finished Bank of America Greater Philadelphia President Jim Dever in a statement. “This seasonal experience creates lasting memories while encouraging all to support local and support artists and small businesses during this season of giving.”
