City Council website hacked

Update:

The Philadelphia City Council website is back online.

“According to our service provider, PHLCouncil.com was hacked and replaced with new content at 7:03 am today,” said City Council spokeswoman Jane Roh in an email. “Our service provider was temporarily locked out of the website, but was able to get back in and delete the hacked page at 9:09 a.m. The site was restored at 10:11 a.m.”

According to Roh, no sensitive information was compromised during the hacking.

“We have no information on who is behind the hacking. The website software has been updated to address vulnerabilities. To be clear, PHLCouncil.com is hosted separately from the City government’s website. No city information that would be deemed sensitive was ever compromised or accessed. The Police Department and OIT have been informed and are working with City Council to prevent future attacks.”

Original story:

Hackers have struck at City Council, just one day after primary elections.

While it’s unclear how long the website has been down, PhiladelphiaCityCouncil.net currently bears the message that it was hacked by “H1d3n Root.”

“I am Muslim and Islam is my way of life,” a message on the site states.

Jane Roh, spokeswoman for City Council president Darrell Clarke, said they are working to address the hack.

“We’ve made the company that operates our website aware. We hope the issue is resolved shortly,” Roh said in an email.

A group called Cyber Command0sclaimed responsibility forthe hack, which they announcedhad taken place around 7:30 a.m. on Facebook and Twitter.

“Your security is very low, patch your security,” the hacked site reads.

The Command0s, who identify themselves as a Muslim hacker team on Twitter, track their hacks online — a list which now includes phlcouncil.com.
