City official injured downtown

CENTER CITY – The head of the city’s Office of Aging is in critical condition after being struck by a truck Tuesday night, officials said.

Assistant Deputy Mayor Debrah Merlin, 62, was crossing the street near 18th and Chestnut streets around 5:45 p.m. when she was hit by a pickup truck. The driver stopped and Merlin was taken to Hahnemann Hospital.
