City Councilman Kenyatta Johnson announced today that two young men who rushed to a car crash on Saturday afternoon to help pull the drivers out of their damaged vehicles will be honored for their heroism.
Joe Chambers, 17, and Dante Johnson, 24, are the Good Samaritans who happened to be standing near 28th and Tasker streets when a civilian driver turned his pickup truck left into the car of officer Mark Kimsey, who was rushing through the intersection to the scene of an emergency.
Afte the crash, both drivers were trapped inside their vehicles.
Shortly after the accident, the police officer’s vehicle became “engulfed in flames” and firefighters responded to bring the fire under control.
No DUI was suspected in the crash, police said.
The two men will receive their citations during a ceremony at City Council chambers on Thursday morning.
